Coffee

The two main varieties of coffee viz., Arabica and Robusta are grown in India. Arabica is grown in higher altitudes than Robusta. The cool and equable temperature, ranging between 15 degree C to 25 degree C, is suitable for Arabica while for Robusta, hot and humid climate with temperature ranging from 20 degree C to 30 degree C is suitable. Soil should be deep, friable, open textured rich in plant nutrients with plenty of humus and of slightly acidic nature (pH – 4.5 to 6.5).

Nutritional Deficiency Symptoms

Nitrogen

Older leaves become yellow in color; reduced leaf size.

Phosphorus

Pink or purple pigmentation appear in old leaves.

Potassium

Occurrence of marginal chlorosis in older leaves

Calcium

Characterized narrow land of marginal chlorosis of leaves turning into necrotic fallow.

Leaves become small, growth shunted.

Sulphur

Yellowing of young leaves; size of the leaf become small.

Boron

Young and newly developing leaves become deformed called as little leaf.

The apical shoot exhibits blackening and death.

Copper

Reduced growth and dark green colour of leaves, twin led malformed leaves.

New leaves shriveled, bushy growth.

Iron

Thin leaves with interveinal chlorosis in young leaves.

Green tinge at the base of mid rib. Leaf size reduced.

Manganese

Fine network of green veins as a light green background on young leaves. Leaf remains fairly green.

Zinc

Yellowing seen in young leaves; leaf size become small.
